About Annalise Castro

Hi everyone, my name is Annalise. I am a visual artist working in painting, ceramics, fibers, and mixed media to explore expressive modalities of storytelling. I create text-based artwork, vessels, and assemblages that explore themes of memory, disclosure, and containment.

I am passionate about the creative process, mental health and wellness, and regulatory art practices. I currently work as an Art and Trauma Therapist in Chicago, IL. I have experience from a variety of art-based, advocacy, and clinical sites including community-based art groups, group art therapy, individual counseling, and art-based curriculum development. In addition to art and counseling services, I am also passionate about community event planning to promote awareness on social issues. I am involved with training professionals and the public on issues pertaining to sexual violence, suicidality, harm reduction, and art-based intervention.

My current art practice explores the complexities of interpersonal change with directness and sometimes humor. My text-based paintings allow for discussion surrounding the themes of autonomy, place-making, and inquiry of the past.

I am self-represented and take commissions on a limited basis. Please reach out if you’d like to work together!
